Mystery shoppers are to visit shops in Guildford to find the best independent retailers in the Surrey town.Retailers are being asked to enter the scheme, in which undercover shoppers will check out the kind of service they are offering customers.
"Larger retailers use mystery shopping frequently to help identify training needs and it works well," said Chris Howard, Guildford town centre manager."It is a way to promote the expertise of our independent retail staff."
Detailed feedback
The shoppers will assess various aspects of the stores, such as the welcome they receive, ease of finding merchandise, the manner of staff and the level of service and the look and feel of the shop.The shops will get detailed feedback on their strengths and anything they can do to improve the store or their service.An awards ceremony will be held on 30 October.
"It is a great opportunity to support the many independent retailers who make the town such an interesting place to shop," said Mr Howard.
