25,000 jobs created in August

25,000 jobs created in August
August was a good month for jobs created in the goods manufacturing industry, it has been reported.

According to the latest Job Creation Index (JCI) the number of vacancies created reached 25,130 with strong growth in the consumer goods manufacturing sector, onrec.com reports.

The figures are down two per cent from the previous year, yet August has still been viewed as a good month by chief executive of the Adecco Group Rene Schuster.

"A number of key sectors such as consumer goods manufacturing and textiles have seen strong scores contributing to an overall healthy month," he remarked.

He added that the biggest single increase in employment was the creation of 1,000 jobs in Widnes by Eddie Stobart.

The worst-performing industries were also identified by the JCI; vehicles and parts and the public sector and defence had poor months in employment gains.

Figures from the National Online Recruitment Agency Survey last month showed an increased use of online jobs boards by jobseekers.
